Former president Donald Trump has hired Amarillo lawyer Christopher D. Parker, a shareholder at Farris, Parker & Hubbard, as one of three attorneys to file a lawsuit against CBS Broadcasting claiming that the TV network committed “unlawful acts of election and voter interference through malicious, deceptive and substantial news distortion” by editing interviews with Vice President Kamala Harris that were broadcast in early October.
The 19-page complaint filed Thursday in the Amarillo division of the Northern District of Texas claims that CBS violated the Texas Business and Commercial Code — specifically the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act — by using “its national platform on 60 Minutes to cross the line from the exercise of judgment in reporting to deceitful, deceptive manipulation of news.”
In essence, the lawsuit accuses CBS of editing the video recording of the vice president to make her answers come across as more acceptable. The lawsuit demands that CBS release the full, unedited interview and seeks $10 billion in damages.
The lawsuit is likely to be assigned to U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, who is the only active federal judge sitting in the Amarillo division and was appointed by Trump. Kacsmaryk’s court has been a favorite of political conservatives to file cases against the Biden administration.
A 1991 graduate of Texas Tech University Law School, Parker, 58, specializes in commercial litigation, personal injury and products liability. He is a member of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel.
Another lawyer listed as representing the former president on the complaint filed Thursday is Daniel Epstein, a former special counsel to the president from 2017 to 2020. He is licensed to practice in Texas but lives in Boca Raton, Florida.
The case is President Donald Trump v. CBS Broadcasting, NDTX, Case No. 24-cv-00236.
