Former U.S. Congressman Lamar Smith, a Republican who represented Texas’ 21st district for more than 30 years, has joined Akin Gump in Washington, D.C. as a senior consultant, the firm announced on Monday.
Smith most recently chaired the Science, Space, and Technology Committee before retiring from the U.S. House of Representatives. He is also a past chairman of the Judiciary Committee.
Before being elected to the U.S. House in 1986, Smith served on the Bexar County Commissioners Court and in the Texas House of Representatives.
