Texas law firm Gray Reed announced the opening of a Waco office this week. The 138-lawyer firm also has outposts in Dallas and Houston.
The new office is expected to serve an “expected surge” of intellectual property cases filed in the Western District of Texas, according the firm’s announcement, as a result of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in TC Heartland.
Four Gray Reed attorneys will be based in or regularly serve the Waco office. They are:
• David G. Henry, who leads the firm’s IP litigation practice group. He has taught patent litigation and patent law courses at Baylor Law School for the last 25 years and was recently appointed to serve as a director for the United States Patent & Trademark Office’s IP Clinic program at the law school.
• Healthcare expert Pat Souter.
• Eric Tautfest, the chair of Gray Reed’s intellectual property department, has prosecuted and defended patent infringement claims before federal courts across the country involving diverse technologies, including wireless telecommunications, software, fiber optics, computer displays and image compression.
• Alex Uber, an associate who specializes in IP law.
“Our IP team is already entrenched in Waco so Judge [Alan] Albright’s arrival creates a tremendous opportunity for our firm to grow our IP practice and having a Waco office allows us to better serve our existing clients in the region,” Henry said in a statement.
Judge Albright was appointed by President Donald Trump to the Western District bench in 2018. He has more than 20 years of experience handling IP matters.
The Gray Reed Waco team will move into the Texas Life Building later this year.
