By Brooks Igo – (October 10) – State Bar of Texas Board President Trey Apffel recently appointed Greenberg Traurig shareholder Annapoorni Sankaran as the minority director of the State Bar of Texas. She is the first South Asian American member on the board.
Sankaran, one of four minority directors, said in a statement from the firm that she will continue her efforts to “facilitate opportunities for diverse attorneys and to increase minority leadership in legal organizations.”
For the past three years, she has been a member of the Texas Minority Counsel Program Steering Committee, where she recently developed a new initiative to introduce diverse students to legal careers and develop the pipeline of future attorneys.
She is also a past president of the National South Asian Bar Association. The SABA Greater Boston Chapter even has an award named after her – the Annapoorni R. Sankaran Award for Excellence in Leadership and Service.
Sankaran practices in Houston and represents clients in commercial litigation and bankruptcy litigation matters.
