(Aug. 9) – Locke Lord announced yesterday that Harriet Miers will receive the Texas Appleseed 2017 J. Chrys Dougherty Good Apple Award, the public interest justice center’s highest recognition.

Miers has an illustrious career highlighted by serving as staff secretary, deputy chief of staff and counsel to President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2007.

A trailblazer, she was the first woman hired at the Dallas law firm Locke Purnell Boren Laney & Neely and later served as its managing partner after the merger with Houston-based Liddell Sapp Zivley Hill & LaBoon. She was the first woman president of both the Dallas Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas.

In February, Miers was selected as a Texas Legal Legend by the State Bar, the highest award given by the organization. She is also one of The Texas Lawbook’s Lions of the Texas Bar.

Miers will receive her award on Nov. 16 at the annual Good Apple Dinner. Past winners include former Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Wallace Jefferson, HEB Grocery Stores Chair Charles Butt, former SCOTX Justice Harriet O’Neill and former Exxon GC Charles Matthews.
