(Jan. 11) – The Houston-based litigation boutique Hicks Thomas announced today that it has expanded into Austin and Beaumont by adding veteran trial lawyer Jay Old and five other attorneys.
Old, former president of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel, previously worked together with Hicks Thomas co-founder John Thomas when they were both at Andrews Kurth. He defends clients in mass tort litigation and in toxic torts, construction and product liability cases.
Hicks Thomas, which is in its 20th year as a firm, has complementary expertise and allows his team to position itself better for business in Houston, Old said.
“I realized I needed broader shoulders,” he added. “I can now stop borrowing friends’ offices in Houston.”
Old, whose team’s clients include refineries, construction contractors, manufacturers, hospital systems and insurers, says property damage appraisal cases are a burgeoning field. He successfully defended insurance companies in a series of high-profile trials involving hailstorm claims in Galveston.
