Houston Chronicle: Texas has Some Crazy Alcohol Laws

November 30, 2015 Mark Curriden

By Staff Reports

(Nov. 29) – The State of Texas has some of the strangest laws in the U.S. concerning the sale of beer, wine and liquor, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The Sunday newspaper cites 15 laws on the books in Texas that most people don’t know about. For example:

• Parents are permitted to buy alcohol for their children who are still minors – a law that Johnny Manziel’s parents obviously knew about, according to the Houston Chronicle;

• A husband or wife who is 21 is permitted to buy his or her spouse an alcoholic drink if they are under-aged;

• There are at least two-dozen stores in Texas that are permitted to sell tequila daiquiris through their drive-thru windows;

• Texas law prohibits the use of coupons for the discounted purchase of booze; and finally,

• A person or company may not own more than five liquor stores in Texas, but WalMart has sued the state to challenge the law.
