HuntonAK, Katten and V&E Fund KIND Pro Bono Fellowship in Houston to Assist Immigrant Children

October 9, 2018 Brooks Igo

Hunton Andrews Kurth, Katten Muchin Rosenman and Vinson & Elkins are working with the Association of Women Attorneys Foundation to fund a fellowship for Kids in Need of Defense to provide legal representation to unaccompanied immigrant children.

The three corporate law firms are splitting the salary of Carmen Portillo, the AWAF Hunton Andrews Kurth Pro Bono Fellow who will represent children in legal proceedings related to immigration and asylum issues. The Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law graduate will be based in KIND’s Houston office.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve children who are in need of representation as they face removal proceedings,” Portillo, whose fellowship term runs through August 2019, said in a statement.
