Justice Lehrmann, Husband Test Positive for Covid-19

May 21, 2020 Allen Pusey

Texas Supreme Court Justice Debra Lehrmann has reportedly tested positive for COVID-19, becoming the first high-ranking state official known to be infected with the novel coronavirus.

Justice Lehrmann confirmed the diagnosis in an interview with The Dallas Morning News. She later confirmed the information via Twitter.

“Greg and I have tested positive for COVID-19. We began to exhibit symptoms last week, despite diligently complying with stay-at-home rules,” she noted on Twitter @JusticeLehrmann. “Thankfully, this has not interfered with #SCOTX work, as the Court is working remotely. We are grateful for your thoughts & prayers. #SBOT“

She told The News that she and her husband had been suffering some of the telltale symptoms of the novel coronavirus and had been tested at a drive-through testing site in Austin.

Lehrmann told The News that their son Jonathan, a Houston lawyer, had been visiting in Austin with his wife and infant son, and that they, too, had likely been infected.

Lehrmann told The News that she and her husband had been working from home and that all the Lehrmanns had adhered to the standard preventive protocols.

“We have strictly adhered to the stay-at-home order since early March,” Lehrmann said.
