(July 21) – KPMG – the US audit, tax and advisory firm – announced this week that it has hired a team of five attorneys and two economists from McDermott Will & Emery in Texas, including Mark Martin and Mark Horowitz, who join as direct-entry principals.

It is the first sizable group from a law firm to join KPMG, according to Henry Yu, associate director of corporate communications.

“There was a high need for an economic valuation services group and to deepen our bench strength in Texas,” Yu said.

The firm’s announcement noted specifically that the new hires meet a growing demand to assist multinational clients respond to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) base erosion and profit sharing (BEPS) actions.

Martin, who was based in Houston, was the chair of McDermott’s transfer pricing practice group. He will serve as the national leader of Transfer Pricing Dispute Resolution at KPMG.

The departing McDermott group also includes Tracy Gomes, who was the chief economist for the firm’s transfer pricing practice.
