(Sept. 19) – Locke Lord beefed up its corporate practice last week by adding Neil Rajan as a partner in the firm’s Dallas office.
Rajan was previously at Vinson & Elkins, where he was a senior associate. He says Locke Lord offers a “tremendous” platform and “vibrant” corporate practice.
“With its deep roots in Texas, the Midwest and East Coast, its allows me to not only grow my practice here at home, but nationally as well,” he said.
Jack Jacobsen, leader of Locke Lord’s corporate practice, noted in a statement that Rajan brings “solid knowledge of capital markets transactions, particularly related to bond offerings.”
In August, Rajan was part of the team that advised Reata Pharmaceuticals in its $115.9 million underwritten public offering of Class A common stock. Last year, he helped advise Oklahoma City-based LSB Industries in its sale of its Climate Control Business to Sweden-based NIBE Industrier AB for $364 million.
Rajan has worked with clients in the oil and gas, aviation, technology, health care and consumer goods industries.
One area his clients are expressing a growing interest in are special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs), which are blank check companies that raise capital from public investors to finance a merger or acquisition opportunity.
“Because a SPAC has no operations, and it has not determined a merger or acquisition opportunity at the time of going public, the financial statement requirements are less extensive as what you would see in a typical IPO,” he says.
“It will be interesting to see if the SEC changes its view on how it regulates SPACs as they become more prevalent.”
