Trent Bridges, former vice president and assistant general counsel at Magellan Midstream Partners, has joined Sidley as a partner in Houston.
Bridges worked for nearly a decade at Magellan, where he served as the lead lawyer on numerous mergers and acquisitions and commercial matters for the Tulsa, Ok. NYSE-listed company.
“We have known Trent for many years as both a client and across the table and know the quality of his work, his negotiating skills and his entrepreneurial drive,” Cliff Vrielink, global leader of the energy and infrastructure practice at Sidley, said in a statement.
“His experience as an executive at a preeminent energy infrastructure company will help bolster and expand our work for strategic clients and private equity and infrastructure funds as well as grow our midstream transactional and regulatory practices.”
Vrielink worked as a counterparty to Magellan in 2019, when he led Mapleleaf Midstream, LLC in its acquisition of a 50% ownership interest in BridgeTex Pipeline Company, LLC from Magellan and Plains All American Pipeline. The deal won “Best Oil & Gas Acquisition” at the IJ Investor Awards that year.
Prior to his in-house tenure, Bridges worked for the Oklahoma law firm McAfee & Taft, where he represented companies in capital markets transactions and Securities Exchange Act of 1934 matters.
Magellan announced the pricing of $300 million and $500 million worth of senior notes offerings last year. Prior to the pandemic, the company sold marine terminals in New Haven, Conn., Wilmington, Del., and Marrero, La. to Houston-based Buckeye Partners for $250 million.
