DENVER – The Magnolia Denver, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, has announced the completion of a four year, financially significant renovation which included enhancements to the meeting spaces, ballroom, rooms/suites, and public spaces including the lobby, fitness room and Harry’s. The revival of the Magnolia Denver pays homage to its roots as the former First National bank building and Denver’s rich history in the 1920s–known as the Wall Street of the West– while incorporating modern touches to create a warm guest experience.
“The completion of this renovation is a major milestone for the Magnolia Denver and we are excited to show off the history of the building alongside a chic new design that will delight any size group, meetings and leisure travelers,” said Jason Horonzy, general manager for Magnolia Denver. ”As one of the original boutique experiences in Denver hospitality, this historic gem is an urban oasis for travelers seeking a home away from home.”
To celebrate the completion of this renovation, the Magnolia Denver is offering special incentives for groups including the Wall Street of the West meeting package- and “The Reclaim Your Weekend” package for guest travelers which starts at $139 and includes valet parking and breakfast. Magnolia has proudly partnered with Marriott Hotels– allowing guests to experience the independence of Magnolia while enjoying Marriott Bonvoy benefits.
The historic Magnolia Denver building first opened in 1910 as a First National Bank, Colorado’s oldest continuously operating bank. The property was restored to reflect its original appearance with terra cotta details and a replicated corner clock that adorns this 13-story landmark edifice.
In the newly refurbished lobby, guests are greeted by a wall lined with vintage safety deposit boxes. The boxes harken back to the 1920s alongside historical touches including the restored original brass fixtures throughout the building and the addition of white marble wall accents. The lobby’s new white marble, cascading from the ceiling across the floor and down another story, is meant to reflect the Colorado River.
As guests flow into the lobby, iconic, historic Denver area photos line the walls alongside . The photos also pay homage to the Holtze family, which originally opened Magnolia Denver in 1995 and still operates the hotel’s management company Stout Street Hospitality, today. Many images showcase family milestones as well as World War I veteran Harry Holtze for whom Harry’s is named. The renovated bar also was expanded to accommodate 60 people.

“The meeting room space at Magnolia Hotel was designed as an ode to the rich history of the city and building by incorporating rich architectural detail and warm intimate finishes. Warm brass along with deep wood tones contrast the crisp white trim work to create a vibrant and engaging space perfect for any event,” said Laura Hilpipre of OZ Architecture. “The furnishings and art deco centered artwork pay homage to the buildings historic beginnings and ties to the lobby and restaurant on the level above creating a cohesive narrative throughout the public space.”
The ballroom carries on this historic narrative as well. The new carpet was inspired by an antique art deco floor grate that was then hand drawn and interpreted into the artwork that creates the dynamic pattern one will see when they enter into the building. Staying true to the history and creating a boutique experience was of the utmost importance ensuring an authentic Magnolia experience.
The first phase of the renovation focused on adding more guest rooms, a Presidential Suite and enhancing the overall room design and décor. Those renovations included adding 51 standard guest rooms by splitting some of the existing suites and creating a Presidential Suite on the 12th floor.
Harry’s offers an elevated pub experience equally poised for a business meeting or late night beer, offering of small plates in a contemporary American style. Sitting within the Magnolia Denver’s historic bones, Harry’s design is a nod to the building’s roots as a storied bank through a study of rich wood, marble, and brass, making a visual connection to the hotel while still standing on its own as a local favorite. The connection to the hotel lobby creates a shared life force that draws the streetscape in, in exchange for a glimpse of community and warmth – never losing its community appeal and bringing the best of the city inside its walls.
