Match Names former Twitter GC as CLO

September 10, 2024 Mark Curriden

Dallas-based Match Group has named former Twitter General Counsel Sean Edgett as its new chief legal officer replacing Jared Sine, who resigned earlier this year to become CLO at GoDaddy.

A former lawyer at Akin Gump and Lathan & Watkins, Edgett played a crucial role in the sale of Twitter to Elon Musk, who fired the GC within minutes of becoming Twitter’s owner. Edgett and former Twitter CLO Vijaya Gadde have sued Musk for denying them severance compensation that they say they are owned.

Match Group, which operates dating apps Match.com and Tinder, said in a written statement issued Monday that Edgett will start Sept. 23.

“I’m thrilled to join Match Group at such a pivotal time for the company and the industry,” Edgett said. “Match Group’s mission of connecting people globally through innovative technology is inspiring, and I look forward to collaborating with the talented team to navigate the evolving legal landscape and help drive the next chapter of growth.”

Since being fired by Musk, Edgett has been the CLO at a private food technology company called UPSIDE Foods. Match said he will operate out of the company’s Los Angeles offices.
