McGuireWoods has added Garrett Johnston as a partner on its private equity team in Houston.
Johnston’s practice deals with private equity funds, their portfolio companies, independent sponsors and family offices, advising across a range of transactions such as leveraged buyouts, acquisitions, divestitures, recapitalizations, joint ventures and securities.
McGuireWoods pointed to Johnston’s experience with independent sponsors as it works to push forward its independent sponsor program, which connects sponsors with capital partners and senior executives, among others.
Last year, he played a role in the purchase of Intertel and MasterTrace by Ontellus, a technology and data company backed by Aquiline Partners and The CapStreet Group. Additionally, he was part of the team that advised Ontellus on Aquiline’s capital investment in the company.
Johnston joins the firm from Willkie Farr & Gallagher, where he most recently served as counsel. He has also worked in the Houston offices of Hogan Lovells and Winston & Strawn, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Johnston is the fourth partner to join McGuireWoods’ Houston office this year. The firm previously added healthcare partners Janice Suchyta and Jonanthan Ishee and labor and employment partner Jason Huebinger.
