David Aaronson is joining McGuireWoods as a partner in Houston as the firm continues to expand its energy M&A and finance practices, according to a news release.
Aaronson has worked in Houston throughout his career. He joined O’Melveny & Myers in November 2024 as a partner after spending more than two years at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, also as a partner. Before that, he spent more than seven years at Willkie Farr & Gallagher, including more than two as a partner, and almost five years at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius as an associate.
Aaronson advises energy exploration and production operators, middle-market private equity sponsors, energy services and infrastructure developers and financial institutions. He also provides counsel to issuers and investors in structuring oil and gas securitizations.
“David’s extensive network among E&P operators, private equity sponsors and lenders complements our existing energy platform and reinforces our position as a go-to firm for complex energy transactions,” said David Hornyak, chair of M&A and energy transactions, who sits in the Pittsburgh office of McGuireWoods, in the release.
Anthony Carna, who leads the firm’s oil, gas and minerals practice, said in the release that Aaronson’s “securitization experience is particularly valuable as our clients increasingly explore innovative financing structures to fund exploration, development and midstream projects.”
“McGuireWoods’ established energy transactional practice, depth across structured finance and restructuring, and collaborative culture make it the ideal platform to serve my clients and grow my practice,” Aaronson said in the release.
In January, McGuireWoods added Edmundo de la Fuente, who advises energy, infrastructure and data center developers, investors and lenders, to its Houston office.
Last year, McGuireWoods reported $99 million in Texas revenue, a 9.3 percent increase from 2024, according to the Lawbook 50. The firm grew its lawyer FTE count by 2.7 percent to 77 last year.
