Steptoe & Johnson announced Wednesday that Megan Knell, a board-certified oil, gas and mineral law attorney, has joined the firm’s Dallas office after two years at Dykema.
Knell has represented exploration and production and midstream companies in negotiating various transactions, including acquisitions and divestitures of upstream and midstream assets, participation agreements, farmout agreements, and other energy-related contracts.

The hire brings to 31 the number of lawyers listed in the firm’s Dallas office.
Before joining Dykema in 2023, Knell had worked Branscomb in Austin in between two stints at Harris, Finley & Bogle.
“Megan’s practice is distinguished by her broad perspective and deep understanding of all stakeholders in upstream and midstream oil and gas transactions,” said Christopher L. Slaughter, CEO of Steptoe & Johnson. “Her ability to navigate the often-competing interests of parties enables her to proactively identify and resolve issues that tend to arise during complex transactions.”
In the course of her career, Knell has advised upstream clients on revenue, working interest disputes and the resolution of title issues. Her experience includes work on oil and gas leases, surface use agreements, pipeline easements and the pricing of mineral interests with surface and royalty holders, as well as the preparation of drilling, acquisition and division order title opinions and lender due diligence in connection with the purchase of upstream assets.
