(May 25) – Morgan Lewis announced this week that global transactions partner Juan-Pablo “John” Crespo has joined the firm’s Houston office.
Crespo, who splits time between Houston and New York, has been with King & Spalding for the past 18 years. He says he was impressed by Morgan Lewis’ transactional footprint and Latin America practice.
“It is a natural fit to come into Morgan Lewis’ platform and finance capabilities tied to Latin America,” he said.
One key opportunity Crespo hopes to capitalize on with his move to Morgan Lewis is to capture the private equity opportunities in Latin America. He says the resurgence of the middle class in that region has caught the attention of private equity funds, particularly those focused on consumer-oriented businesses.
Crespo specializes in cross-border transaction work in the areas of investment funds, energy and life sciences. He says energy investment opportunities in Latin America’s three largest economies – Argentina, Brazil and Mexico – are opening up.
“It is opening up more than it has ever been, at least in our lifetime,” he said. “It will continue to attract interest by companies based here.”
Morgan Lewis also announced that Crespo’s longtime colleague at King & Spalding, Adrian Talamantes, will be joining the Houston office on May 30.
