OKC Law Firm Taps Ex-Strasburger Partner to Lead Dallas Outpost

(May 10) – An Oklahoma City law firm is the latest out-of-state firm to join in on the lateral hiring frenzy in Dallas.

Phillips Murrah has selected former Strasburger M&A partner Mark Golman to lead its second office. He said Strasburger’s recent combination with Clark Hill posed potential client conflicts and raised concerns about rising rates.

Golman, who counts Pioneer Natural Resources as a client, became familiar with Phillips Murrah because the 70-lawyer firm and Strasburger were in the same law firm association.

“I reached out to Phillips Murrah as the merger discussions moved along and asked if they would have an interest in opening a Dallas office,” said Golman, who had strong personal relationships with partners at his new firm. “This is an opportunity to be a little more entrepreneurial, lower overhead and position myself to offer the same services at a lower cost point.”

At Stasburger, Golman served as lateral hiring partner for 18 years and interim CMO on a number of occasions. He said Phillips Murrah is actively looking to grow the Dallas office with lateral additions in litigation, employment and real estate.

“Expanding into Dallas fits perfectly with our overall growth strategy,” said Thomas G. Wolfe, Phillips Murrah’s president and managing partner. “Dallas is a true growth market whose economic base is large and diversified. The opportunities in Dallas have been recognized across the nation.”

Phillips Murrah already has a number of attorneys who are licensed to practice in Texas, including alumni of Akin Gump and Haynes and Boone, and clients based in the state. The firm has listed 10 attorneys, including Golman, as part of its new Dallas outpost.
