(December 20)–At the beginning of December, Joyce Mazero, a franchising and distribution expert, became Perkins Coie’s fifth partner and ninth attorney to join the firm’s Dallas office since March. She was most recently a partner at Haynes and Boone, where she led the franchise and distribution and restaurant and retail practices.
Mazero said she looks forward to leveraging the firm’s resources, particularly its food and beverage, food litigation, retail industries and consumer products and IP practices, to expand her practice. She has assisted clients in developing strategy, structuring, negotiating, implementing and resolving disputes for product and service-based domestic and international license, franchise, distribution and shared services systems.
“Joyce is an internationally recognized attorney and well-respected in the food service, restaurant and retail industries as a strong advocate and strategic business advisor for her clients,” said Steve Smith, managing partner of Perkins Coie’s Dallas Office. “We are delighted Joyce has chosen to join our firm.”
The St. Mary’s University School of Law graduate highlighted three hot issues that she and her clients will be addressing in the next year: “regulation nation” challenges in health care, food products manufacturing, immigration and employment; international franchise and joint venture expansion including emerging markets; and consolidated purchasing and sourcing and movement of product globally.
Mazero said three of the biggest deals she has handled in her career were the structuring and roll outs of the franchise programs of Keller Williams Realty, Applebee’s and Ruby Tuesday.
In the community, she serves as counsel to the Women’s Foodservice Forum and honorary counsel for Promise House, a shelter and school for children and teenagers with no present home. She has been involved with Promise House since 2000.
