By Brooks Igo – (October 27) – Norton Rose Fulbright recently announced it added Lisa Atlas Genecov as a partner to lead the firm’s healthcare transactional practice in Dallas. She was previously chair of Locke Lord’s healthcare practice.
Genecov said her new firm offered her the best platform in the health law area, representing primarily provider-focused clients.
“The lawyers I knew there were first rate,” she said. “I knew that was where I wanted to practice.”
The UT School of Law graduate counsels hospitals, health systems, medical groups and other healthcare providers in transaction structures, implementation matters, compliance obligations and strategic opportunities under the Affordable Care Act and related health reform laws and regulations.
Genecov represented Conifer Health Solutions – a subsidiary of Tenet Healthcare – in its revenue management transaction with Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI), where CHI also assumed a minority stake in Conifer in 2012.
“This transaction was interesting and important because it positioned the parties to better manage payor reimbursement rates, expand Medicaid eligibility and increase investments in information technology,” she said.
She says a major area of interest for health industry stakeholders is how providers can collaborate and align with payors and manage population health, wellness and prevention issues. Due to the move to electronic health records, another area she expects she and her clients will be addressing on a regular basis is data security and breach notification issues.
In her role as chair of Norton Rose Fulbright’s Dallas healthcare transactional practice, Genecov says she hopes to work on projects and develop relationships with clients that are working to advance quality, lower costs and improve efficiencies in the industry.
“I enjoy being part of a dynamic industry that is changing almost daily and helping to give access to healthcare to people who did not previously have the ability to receive or pay for that care,” she said.
Genecov is a co-founder of the Center for Women in Law at UT School of Law and serves as chair of the ABA’s Health Law Section’s Coordinating Committee on Diversity and vice chair of its Emerging Issues in Health Care Law Planning Committee.
Over the last several years, she has also provided pro bono legal services to the Be the Difference Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to supporting research and increasing awareness of ovarian cancer.
