(May 21) — It’s never too late to make a career change.
After 36 years, attorney Rob Roby is leaving the private practice of law to become the president/CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) Lone Star, the largest BBBS agency in the country covering more than 100 counties in 17 offices statewide. Roby’s official first day on the job was yesterday.
Roby has served on the executive board of BBBS for 15 years after Frank Bracken, then-president of Haggar Clothing Co., invited him to lunch to talk about serving on the board.
He was and continues to be attracted by the growth of BBBS, which now serves more than 10,000 boys and girls annually.
The 1977 graduate of SMU’s Dedman School of Law focused his law practice on civil litigation. He was most recently at Curran Tomko, where he had been of counsel since Oct. 1, 2007.
Roby said there is one thing he won’t miss about private practice: time sheets.
“I hope I never see another one again,” he said.
