(March 23) – Rachel Gonzalez, who has held senior in-house legal positions at several Texas companies, will no longer have to pay for a cup of coffee starting next month.
Starbucks officials have announced that they conducted a global search to hire a new general counsel at the Seattle-based coffee maker and Gonzalez was the perfect fit.
Gonzalez is currently the chief administrative officer at Southlake-based Sabre Corporation, where she was responsible for all the company’s legal matters, human resources, corporate communications, regulatory affairs, corporate compliance and government affairs.
Before joining Sabre in 2014, Gonzalez served as deputy general counsel and general counsel at Dallas-based Dean Foods. Before that, she was a corporate counsel at Affiliated Computer Services and a partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius.
At Starbucks, Gonzalez will have the titles of executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.
“A leader with outstanding judgment and tremendous business acumen, Rachel is a terrific addition to Starbucks as we continue to accelerate our leadership position as a global brand with a rich heritage in coffee, long-standing values, and the responsibility to use our scale for good,” Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson said in a written statement.
Gonzalez also is on the board of Dana Incorporated, where she serves on the audit committee as well as the nominating and corporate governance committee.
She holds a law degree from the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, and also holds a bachelor’s degree in Comparative Literature with high honors from the University of California, Berkeley.
