The Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) announced Wednesday that it has appointed Dallas attorney Scott Carlson as its new general counsel. He succeeds Hyattye Simmons as the agency’s top attorney.
Before becoming general counsel, Carlson was the senior counsel at the bankruptcy law firm Cavazos, Hendricks, Poirot & Smitham in Dallas.
Carlson’s work with DART is not new, however. In 2003, the Dallas City Council appointed him on DART’s board of directors. During his time as a member, he was secretary of the board, chaired the planning committee, and served on a number of other board committees. Carlson served on the board until June of this year.
He is also a former assistant city attorney of the City of Dallas and former counsel at Nortel Networks Inc.
Carlson is a graduate of Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law, and he received his bachelor of science in civil engineering from Texas Tech University. Before he began his legal career, Carlson worked in the oil and gas industry as a civil engineer.
