Scott Hogan, Former 1st Assistant U.S. Attorney in Dallas, Joins Dykema

April 7, 2025 Bruce Tomaso

Scott Hogan, the recently departed first assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Texas, has joined the Dallas office of Dykema, reuniting with his old boss, former U.S. Attorney Leigha Simonton.

Simonton resigned as U.S. attorney on Jan. 19, the day before President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

She and Hogan both start at Dykema today, where they work together in the firm’s growing practice in white-collar litigation, compliance, investigations and enforcement.

“I’m honored to have this opportunity to continue the very special working relationship Leigha and I developed over many years at the U.S. attorney’s office,” Hogan said. “Leigha is not only a remarkably skilled lawyer. She is also a close friend whose judgment I’ve relied on for many years. And our practices are very complementary. It’s an ideal situation for me.”

Hogan spent 18 years at the U.S. attorney’s office and was first assistant since December 2021. Before that, he headed the office’s civil chief, overseeing, among other matters, healthcare fraud and other complex white-collar prosecutions.

Simonton joined the U.S. attorney’s office in 2005, two years before Hogan. Before President Joe Biden chose her to lead the office in late 2022, she was chief of its appellate division.

“When I decided to go into private practice, my No. 1 one goal was to create a team with Scott because I knew how talented and experienced he was,” Simonton said. “Scott brings a unique wealth of experience, having conducted and supervised government investigations, fraud litigation and settlement negotiations, and has a keen understanding of how to reach a favorable outcome with the government.

“Our collective 37-plus years of government work, including at the highest level of a U.S. attorney’s office, allow us to bring an unparalleled level of government-side knowledge to advise and guide our clients as they navigate the complex waters of modern compliance, regulatory, civil and criminal issues.”

Dykema is a leading provider of legal services to the dental industry, working with more than 350 dental services organizations in all 50 states and six provinces of Canada. The firm does extensive work in other healthcare sectors as well.

“Scott’s expertise in healthcare regulation and fraud prevention will be invaluable to Dykema’s many clients in the dental and medical sectors,” said Chris Kratovil, the firm’s Dallas managing member.

“The combination of Leigha and Scott immediately gives Dykema one of the strongest white- collar and investigations practice in the Northern District of Texas and, for that matter, in the entire state,” he said.

“We view Leigha and Scott as a potent tag team. Both have platinum-plated resumes and remarkable credentials, they’ve worked closely together for many years, and we are delighted that they elected to continue their highly successful professional partnership here at Dykema.”
