SCOTX Hears Arguments in $25M Dispute Between Exxon and Lexington Insurance

October 7, 2026 Alexa Shrake

Editor’s Note: The Texas Lawbook wrongly included a sentence at publication of this story on Wednesday that Justice Debra Lehrmann “owns shares” of Exxon Mobil stock and that she “was present” for the oral arguments. The Lawbook pointed to 2025 financial disclosure forms. But The Lawbook has learned that the sentence was incorrect and that Justice Lehrmann sold her Exxon Mobil stock. The Lawbook failed to do the additional reporting and editing required and The Lawbook team apologizes to Justice Lehrmann for our error. Justice Lehrmann is widely respected for her legal and judicial ethics and has been recognized many times for her professionalism and ethics. The Lawbook’s No. 1 priority is to be accurate. We promise that we will do better.

A dispute over $25 million in insurance coverage reached the Texas Supreme Court Wednesday morning, as justices heard arguments from counsel over whether an umbrella policy covers personal injury claims.
