(Jan. 7) – Baker & McKenzie recently announced that corporate and securities partner Justin Whittenburg has rejoined the firm after spending the past several years as senior corporate and compliance counsel at MRC Global Inc.
Whittenburg says Baker & McKenzie has always been a good fit for him because of its global footprint.
“It is one of only a handful of law firms with a dedicated Global Integration and Reorganization group, as well as having the necessary global footprint to support such a group.”
At MRC Global, Whittenburg was involved in all corporate aspects of the legal department, M&A and divestitures, securities, corporate governance, global reorganizations, finance-related work and other general corporate matters. He also managed the company’s global compliance program.
MRC Global went public shortly after Whittenburg joined in January 2012. He says this experience and the wide-ranging responsibilities he handled made him a more versatile lawyer.
Whittenburg noted that low (and dropping) oil prices are driving the significant developments in his practice.
“With low oil prices and a shrinking capital expenditures forecast, we see companies employing a variety of strategies to stay ahead of market changes such as divestitures, acquisitions, consolidations and reorganizations,” he said.
