(June 1) – Sidley Austin recently announced that corporate reorganization and bankruptcy expert Duston McFaul has joined the firm’s Houston office as a partner.

McFaul, who joins from Vinson & Elkins, said he was attracted to the firm’s wide-ranging and growing expertise in oil and gas as well as its growth in Texas.

“Sidley has one of the deepest reorganization practices and platforms in the country,” he said.

McFaul said one key development in his practice is the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit’s reversal in the Pro-Snax case, which he says made Texas an even more attractive forum for reorganization cases.

“Duston’s approach to corporate restructuring and his extensive knowledge of the upstream industry will be of tremendous value to our energy clients,” Jim Rice, co-managing partner of the firm’s Houston office and co-chair of the energy practice, said in a statement. “We believe that having a top-flight restructuring lawyer in Houston will better allow us to offer a complete suite of specialized legal services to the industry.

“Moreover, as the cycle improves, Duston will contribute to our ability to help our clients manage credit risk in non-distress leveraged and structured financings and other commercial transactions.”
