Spencer Fane Opens Fourth Texas Outpost

March 5, 2020 Brooks Igo

Austin data privacy and cybersecurity lawyer Cheryl Burtzel is launching Spencer Fane’s fourth Texas office, the firm announced on Thursday.

The Kansas City-based firm entered Texas via Dallas and Plano in 2018 and combined with Zimmerman, Axelrad, Stern & Wise, P.C. last fall to gain a foothold in Houston. It now has 63 attorneys in the state.

“This new office reinforces our commitment to serving our growing client base wherever they do business, along with the opportunity to bring aboard an attorney with Cheryl’s expertise,” Pat Whalen, managing partner of Spencer Fane, said in a statement.

Burtzel, a former senior managing counsel at Dell, was most recently at the Austin law firm Duggins Wren Mann & Romero. She represents clients in the commercial, financial, utility, healthcare and technology industries and serves as the vice-chair of the American Bar Association Cyberspace Law Committee.
