(Jan. 7) – Strasburger & Price recently announced that it tapped Sujata Ajmera to lead the firm’s immigration practice.
Ajmera, who is based in Austin, joins Strasburger from Jackson Lewis. She says the firm’s range of practice areas will allow her to better serve her clients.
“Developing immigration plans for individuals and businesses often involves complex financial and corporate planning, and I often had to elicit the advice of attorneys outside of my former firm to meet my clients’ needs,” she said. “Here, I can simply ‘walk down the hall’ and consult with other practitioners.”
The University of Texas School of Law graduate focuses her practice exclusively on business immigration and compliance law. In particular, she develops and assists clients in conducting I-9 compliance audits, including those arising from government investigations, and works with human resources and corporate counsel to devise I-9 and onboarding policies and procedures.
Ajmera says the industry is seeing an increased scrutiny on professional visa categories, specifically those reserved for multi-national managers and highly-specialized workers.
“In order to avoid processing delays, we now must provide an abundance of evidentiary support far beyond what the government would have requested in previous years,” she said.
In leading the firm’s immigration practice, Ajmera hopes to grow it on a national level. She says the national scope of immigration law and the efficiencies of technology should allow the firm to leverage its existing platform to clients in industries and locations across the U.S.
