Vinson & Elkins announced that it is welcoming back one of its environmental and technology lawyers – this time as a partner.
Susan Snyder, who worked at V&E from 1989-1995 as an associate in the energy practice group, returns to the firm after spending many years working as an in-house counsel for Advanced Micro Devices. While at AMD, Snyder served as the company’s executive legal counsel and vice president of international policy and relations.
At V&E, Snyder will be a part of the environmental counseling and transactional practice group and will provide domestic and international environmental risk management counseling.
Her experience in the technology sector will help better serve her clients at V&E with waste management and environmental concerns, as well as the growing regulatory requirements that companies in the expanding technology sector face daily. She will also offer her expertise to energy industry clients in regard to handling water scarcity caused from recent droughts and the growing demand for a reliable water supply for hydraulic fracturing, electric power generation and other needs.
Snyder has recently worked on new environmental regulations that came from the EU and China that impact companies based in the U.S. She said that technology companies are increasingly having complex environmental issues both in the U.S. and abroad.
“Environmental, technology and international issues are all intersecting as energy companies deploy more sophisticated approaches in using technology to unlock energy and technology companies work to increase their energy efficiency,” Snyder said.
Snyder has significant experience advising companies on cross-border environmental legislation, regulation and policy both in the U.S. and in countries throughout Europe, China, India and Brazil.
Before returning to V&E, Snyder was a partner at Jackson Walker. She also began teaching courses in 2009 at the University of Texas McCombs School of Business in business law, international business and law, ethics and corporate social responsibility.
Snyder said that returning to V&E was appealing because it is an exciting place to be to practice energy and environmental law.
“V&E is an exciting and appealing platform for me since the firm’s energy and environmental work is growing domestically and internationally,” she said. “I’m also looking forward to help grow the environmental practice in Austin.”
