In a $40 billion deal a Blackrock-led consortium of major AI players acquired Plano-based Aligned Data Centers in one of the largest data infrastructure to date. It was one of 14 deals valued at $46.6 billion dollars reported to the Roundup last week. Even so, it was only the seventh-largest Texas-related deal of 2025. The week that ended Oct. 11 saw 14 deals reported with a total value of $17.4 billion, nearly two-thirds of which was attributable to Fifth Third Bancorp acquiring Comerica in a stock swap valued at $10.9 billion. It was a bit of a drop-off from the 21 deals valued at $20.8 billion for the week prior and less in volume but better in value than the 22 deals valued at $8.4 billion this time last year.

The week that ended Oct. 4 saw 21 deals reported with a total value of $20.8 billion with a few billion-dollar transactions, including one that may be the final deal for the Oracle of Omaha. Elsewhere, Texas bank consolidations continue as Prosperity Bank acquires Texas Partners to expand further into San Antonio, Austin and The Hill Country.

The week ending Sept. 27 had 16 deals reported with an overall value of nearly $22.8 billion led by $17 billion in in just two transactions by one of the largest utility builders in North America.
The week that ended Sept. 20 saw 24 deals with a reported value of $11.3 billion. There were a lot of deals this week related to energy, infrastructure or AI, or some combination of the three. The largest deals of the week included, perhaps unsurprisingly, a few of the largest players: with San Antonio’s electric utility buying four natural gas plants for $1.4 billion and Blackstone buying a huge natural gas plant in southwest Pennsylvania for $1 billion, give or take a few million or so. The week that ended Sept. 13 saw 21 transactions valued at $21 billion. That doesn't count the late arrivals and deals outside our usual space (See "Late Arrivals and other matters..." at the bottom of this column). It's a pretty good week when you average $1 billion per deal. For comparison, the week prior, we saw 19 deals for $8.5 billion and 24 deals for nearly $11 billion at this time last year. But each week seems a bit stranger than the last. That and more in this edition of CDT Roundup.
The week that ended Sept. 6 saw 20 deals with a reported value of $8.6 billion. That seems, at first glance, far better than last week's 10 total deals for $3.5 billion. And it is. But not better than the 12 deals for $20 billion we saw this time last year.
But a closer look shows that the numbers were thin on money actually changing hands. First off, most of the money reported was on the capital markets side, $5.7 billion of the $8.6 billion reported. And on the M&A side, we saw $2.9 billion reported, but $1.57 of that was in a single midstream deal.

The week ending Aug. 30 saw 10 deals with a reported value of $6.6 billion. That's a significant drop from the prior week's 23 deals for $15.2 billion. We could write that off as a holiday week problem, but last year at this time, we saw 13 deals for $20.6 billion. The week began strong enough with the announcement of a $3.1 billion acquisition in the Permian and AT&T's $23 billion licensing agreement with EchoStar, but M&A simply dwindled over the rest of the week. The week ending Aug. 23 saw 23 deals for just over $15.2 billion. The deals included three transactions — in media, oil and gas and electrical services — which together accounted for $13.6 billion, amounting to 90 percent of the total. But the week saw a slurry of PE transactions, most of them in the electrical, HVAC or data services sectors and they involved a broad variety of interesting businesses. The week ending August 16 saw 13 deals for $26 billion. At first blush that meshes nicely with the week prior, which saw 19 deals valued at $16 billion. But don't be deceived. Of those 19 deals in the prior week, 15 of the volume (and $11 million of their value) were for M&A or fundings. Last week saw only seven M&A/Fundings valued in total at just over $3 billion. And the big deal of the week was a capital markets filing: a $20 billion upgrade in a previously announced At-The-Market issue for a crypto miner. That's a questionable week masking as a blockbuster.
