By Brooks Igo
(Aug. 23) – Thompson & Knight announced this week that tax expert Brandon Bloom has returned to the firm in Dallas as a partner after serving as managing tax counsel for two years at Vistra Energy.
At Vistra, Bloom oversaw and provided tax legal advice on mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and other transactions related to the company and its affiliates, including a multi-billion dollar bankruptcy restructuring.
He says he rejoined T&K because of the “breadth of sophisticated work” he will be able to work on.
“After working at T&K for more than seven years, I knew the firm’s culture and working environment was the right fit for me,” he added.
He described the experience of working in-house as invaluable.
“Being at Vistra provided me with insight into the inner workings of in-house tax and legal departments, the demands on in-house lawyers and management, what they need and expect from outside counsel, and an appreciation for managing the relationship with our outside counsel,” he said.
