(Sept. 19) – The Texas Access to Justice Foundation announced today that Carlos M. Zaffirini, Jr. has been appointed by the Supreme Court of Texas to serve on TAJF’s board of directors for a two-year term concluding in August 2018.

Zaffirini is the president and CEO of Adelanto HealthCare Ventures, an Austin-based health care finance consulting company. He is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law and is a member of the UT Chancellor’s Council Executive Committee.

Zaffirini serves on the boards of directors of a number of organizations, including the Austin Symphony, People’s Community Clinic, Hispanic Alliance for the Performing Arts, Anti-Defamation League and Mental Health America of Texas.

Through his involvement with the Champion of Justice Society, Zaffirini created the Carlos Sr. and Senator Judith Zaffirini Access to Justice Initiative, which pays for Texas bar exam review courses for low-income law students that commit to increasing access to justice for low-income Texans.

“His experience helping disadvantaged Texans will be invaluable to the board as we provide legal aid organizations throughout the state the resources for basic civil legal services,” Richard Tate, chair of the TAJF board of directors, said in a statement.

The Texas Supreme Court also reappointed Joseph Barrientos, Lamont Jefferson and Jon Levy to the TAJF board of directors for three-year terms. Additionally, the State Bar of Texas reappointed Becky Baskin Ferguson and Terry Tottenham to the board.

The TAJF board of directors consists of 13 attorney and public members, seven of whom are appointed by the state’s highest court and six by the State Bar.
