(Aug. 11) – K&L Gates announced yesterday that Ky Ash, the former budget director for Texas Governor Greg Abbott, will join the firm’s Austin office in early September as a government affairs advisor.
Ash, who will be serving in a non-lawyer position, will work with the firm’s public policy and law practice.
Over the course of nearly two decades working in Texas state government, Ash has also worked as chief of staff and legislative director for Texas State Rep. James Keffer and as chief clerk of several Texas House committees, including energy resources, ways and means, economic development and the select committee on property tax relief.
Ash has helped negotiate and pass a number of bills, including the first mandatory hydraulic fracturing fluid disclosure bill in the U.S. and legislation authorizing the state issuance of $3 billion in bonds to fund cancer research and prevention programs.
