(April 20) – Thompson & Knight recently announced that securities regulatory and compliance expert Michele “Mitch” Gibbons has joined the firm’s Houston office as a partner.

Gibbons, who jumped over from Chamberlain Hrdlicka, noted Thompson & Knight’s “strong legal platform” for its private equity fund clients as a key reason for making the move.

“I can be an asset to their existing investment fund clients who face an ever-growing regulatory environment,” she said. “I was also impressed with T&K’s recognized commitment to pro bono, diversity and for advancing the professional careers of women in the workplace.”

Over the past year, Gibbons has worked with investment managers on new crowdfunding platforms, robo-adviser platforms and opportunistic energy funds. She says it is rewarding to guide clients who have the courage and insight to develop new investment products through the regulatory landscape.

Three key areas that have become increasingly important to Gibbons’ practice are cybersecurity, social media compliance and dealing with a growing elderly investment base.

Gibbons is a member of the Tahirih Justice Center’s Houston advisory board.
