A longtime M&A lawyer who spent the majority of his career with Haynes Boone died earlier this month.
Tom Tippetts, 46, who joined Haynes Boone as an associate in 2006, died on June 4.
As part of the firm’s mergers & acquisitions practice group, Mr. Tippetts became a partner in January 2014 and played a key part in Haynes Boone’s growth of its Denver office.
“It is with great sorrow that Haynes Boone shares the loss of our partner and friend of many years,” the firm stated. “Tom’s brilliant mind accounted for far more than his phenomenal success as a lawyer. While he was often the smartest person in any room, he was always the last to acknowledge it. But everyone around him benefitted, including his partners, young lawyers who became his mentees, the many clients turned friends and countless colleagues who shared his company and conversation.”
Mr. Tippetts, who specialized in M&A, private equity investments, debt financings and more, graduated from the University of Texas School of Law in 2006. Last month, he was part of Willkie Farr & Gallagher’s official announcement of the launch of its Dallas office as a newly joined partner, in addition to Brandon McCoy and Chase Proctor – both of whom also lateraled their private equity and M&A practices from Haynes Boone.
“Willkie is an elite corporate firm with one of the most active private equity practices. The platform is a perfect fit for our practices now and into the future. We are thrilled to join Willkie at such an exciting time of growth for the firm and in the Dallas area,” said Mr. Tippetts in a news release last month.
Mr. Tippetts is survived by his wife, Sarah, and children, Tess, Adelle and William, as well as his mother, Pam, and siblings Joe, Heidi, Eva and Holly.
A memorial service will be held on June 28 at 7:30 p.m. on the Anschutz Family Sky Terrace at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science in Denver. A second memorial service will be held on July 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Mapleton, Utah.
