New York-based Blackstone Energy Partners is Blackstone’s energy-focused private equity business. Tamarind Energy will be located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The V&E corporate team was led by partner Creighton Smith and associates Adam Lyons and Ali Lopez, all of the Houston office. Also assisting from Houston were partner John Lynch (tax); partner Tom Wilson and associate Grace Ho (labor/employment); partner Darin Schultz and associate James Longhofer (finance) and Dallas-based partner Shane Tucker (benefits).
Blackstone’s local counsel in Singapore was international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. Canada-based Bennett Jones in Calgary represented Tamarind Energy with John Mercury leading the team and Darcy Moch (tax) and Kieran Ryan (corporate) assisting.
This isn’t the first time that V&E has represented Blackstone entities. It previously represented GSO Capital Partners, the credit investment arm of Blackstone, in its $150 million investment in Rentech Inc., which was announced in April.
