(Jan. 4) – Vinson & Elkins recently announced its 2016 class of newly minted partners, effective Jan. 1. Eight of the 10 lawyers promoted to partner are based in Texas.
Mike Heidler and Stephen Stout office in Austin.
Heidler is an appellate lawyer and has advised on oil and gas, antitrust, securities, condemnation, environmental, construction and class-action disputes. In April, he was part of the team that secured a victory for Valerus Compression Services LP.
Stout, a 2007 graduate of the University of Texas School of Law, focuses on technology-based litigation. He has represented clients from the biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, digital media and e-commerce sectors.
Shaun Rogers and Danny Tobey are based in Dallas.
Rogers, a 2005 University of Texas School of Law graduate, focuses his practice on commercial real estate transactions. He has represented private equity firms, institutional investors, REITs and developers in property acquisitions and dispositions; commercial leasing transactions; joint ventures; development and construction projects; mortgage lending on real estate; and commercial lending.
Tobey is a trial and appellate lawyer whose clients include energy, health care, private equity, software, environmental and airline companies, as well as religious denominations and law firms. He is also a doctor and has used his medical expertise to represent hospitals and pharmaceutical companies in patent disputes and tort claims.
Stephen Jacobson, Julian Seiguer, David Wall and Mingda Zhao practice out of the firm’s headquarters in Houston.
Jacobson focuses his practice on executive compensation and employee benefits matters. He recently provided compensation and benefits advice to Riverstone Holdings in the $9.5 billion formation of Talen Energy Corporation and to TPG Capital in the $1.8 billion acquisition of the Jonah Field operations from Encana Corporation.
Seiguer’s practice focuses on corporate finance and securities matters. His capital markets experience includes representation of both issuers and underwriters in initial public offerings. He advised Parsley Energy, Inc. in its $1.1 billion IPO, Dominion Midstream Partners in its $423 million IPO and Westlake Chemical Partners LP in its $311 million IPO.
Wall, a 2007 South Texas College of Law graduate, is an expert on eminent domain and condemnation litigation. He focuses primarily on representing property owners against takings by local and state authorities.
Zhao focuses his practice on M&A, private equity investments, joint ventures, energy transactions, cross-border transactions and general corporate representation.
He has been a part of the deal teams in some of the firm’s largest energy deals, including representing Apollo Global Management and Riverstone Holdings in their $7.15 billion acquisition of El Paso Corp.’s upstream assets, Pioneer Natural Resources in its $1.8 billion joint venture with Sinochem Petroleum and Devon Energy in its $2.3 billion sale of oil and gas properties in 10 states to Linn Energy Holdings.
