Winstead Scores Former UT Men’s Athletic Director

March 6, 2019 Brooks Igo

Houston lawyer Mike Perrin, who recently served for three years as the men’s athletic director for the University of Texas, has returned to the practice of law at Winstead as of counsel.

Perrin, a Longhorn football letterman under legendary Coach Darrell Royal in the 1960s, was appointed as the UT’s interim men’s athletic director in September 2015. That December, he was named by UT President Gregory Fenves to the AD position through the 2017-2018 year.

A member of the UT Men’s Hall of Honor, Perrin will work in Winstead’s healthcare, sports, litigation and university practice and industry groups. Winstead has a strong bench of sports business law attorneys including Denis Braham, Ken Kopf and Paul Wageman.

“I am thrilled to be associated with a firm that has such history in Texas as well as a sterling reputation,” Perrin said in a statement. “I look forward to working with my new partners, adding value and strengthening current client relationships in addition to developing new ones.”

Perrin started his legal career at Vinson & Elkins after graduating from UT Law in 1971. He has also practiced at King & Spalding and as a solo practitioner over the course of his career.
