Plano-based Toyota Motor North America has named a new general counsel and a new corporate compliance and ethics officer — both will report to chief legal officer Sandra Phillips Rogers.

Toyota has named former deputy general counsel Elizabeth Gibson to the GC position and assistant GC Dawn Pittman Collins to the corporate compliance and ethics officer post.
Gibson has been a lawyer in the legal department at Toyota for more than 19 years. In her previous position, she oversaw complex litigation, government investigations and regulatory compliance.
“In this role, Gibson oversees the company’s legal department and is responsible for setting legal direction and strategy,” Toyota stated in an announcement posted on the company’s website. “She provides strategic guidance to the enterprise to help navigate complicated legal challenges, enable the business to accomplish objectives, mitigate risks and liabilities and support the culture of compliance and ethics.”
Prior to joining Toyota in 2006, Gibson had an intellectual property practice in Los Angeles.

Earlier this month, Toyota also announced that it had promoted Pittman Collins, a 14-year veteran of the Toyota Legal One department, to chief compliance and ethics officer.
“Pittman Collins will be responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership over internal audit, compliance and ethics, regulatory compliance and customs/trade compliance,” according to Toyota’s announcement. “She will also serve as an advisor to the TMNA Audit Committee and the Risk Committee.”
The Toyota Motor North America legal department has about 50 in-house lawyers.
