The Bassett Firm Joins Chartwell Law Platform

March 30, 2026 Brooks Igo

Pennsylvania law firm Chartwell Law continued its Texas expansion efforts by bolting on The Bassett Firm, known for transportation and trucking litigation.

Mike Bassett, who has run the firm for nearly 25 years, said on LinkedIn the move marks an important new chapter and was not a decision made lightly.

“What made it clear was the alignment. In addition to a commitment to trial work and a deep understanding of the transportation industry, we share a culture built on collaboration and respect for the people doing the work every day,” he said.

“For our clients, the most important thing to know is that our team remains intact. You’ll continue working with the same lawyers you know and trust, with the same approach and responsiveness, now also backed by the resources of a national platform. For our team, this move creates new opportunities to grow and continue doing the kind of work we’ve always taken pride in. I’m grateful to everyone who has been part of our journey so far.”

The 14-lawyer Bassett Firm team has collectively tried more than 300 cases to verdict in courts across Texas and the U.S., according to Chartwell’s announcement.

Chartwell Managing Partner Chuck Barreras said the firm became familiar with Bassett through Matt Hefflefinger, a leader in Chartwell’s transportation practice group.

“The firm and reputation Mike built are undoubtedly impressive, but what attracted us most is that the culture he established aligns closely with Chartwell’s collaborative approach, where each of us works together for the benefit of all,” Barreras said.

Chartwell entered the Texas legal market in January 2024 with four lawyers. The firm is up to 21 attorneys combined in Dallas and Austin after the addition of The Bassett Firm team.
