Fort Worth-based American Airlines has reached a settlement agreement with the US Department of Justice on the government’s antitrust lawsuit.

The settlement clears the way for American to merge with US Airways.

The government’s antitrust case was set to go to trial in two weeks.

Details of the settlement can be read at dallasnews.com.

American General Counsel Gary Kennedy and associate general counsel Bruce Wark, who is an expert on antitrust issues, led AA’s legal efforts.

AA turned to national law firms Jones Day and Paul Hastings to help negotiate a deal. The Jones Day team included Houston partner Bruce McDonald.
