June 11, 2026 Elle Grinnell

Dilen Kumar has joined Akin in Dallas as a corporate partner. He will focus his practice on private equity transactions, mergers and acquisitions, investment strategies and corporate governance matters, according to a news release.

Kumar spent nearly five years as a partner at Katten Muchin Rosenman, where he advised private equity sponsors and public and private companies on mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, carve-outs and investment transactions. Before Katten, he was a partner in the private equity and M&A practice at Kirkland & Ellis. Before entering private practice, Kumar served in the Obama administration as an assistant counsel in the White House Counsel’s Office. He has also represented private equity firms, asset managers and public companies in transactions across the healthcare, technology, energy and consumer sectors and has advised clients on corporate governance and special situations matters.

“Clients are navigating an increasingly complex investment environment, requiring counsel that can operate seamlessly across transaction types and market conditions,” said corporate practice co-head Zachary Wittenberg. “Dilen’s practice reflects that evolution, and his experience further differentiates our private equity offering.”

Akin recorded $279.2 million in Texas revenue last year, a 15.4 percent increase over 2024, and reported a headcount of 156 lawyers, an increase of 7.6 percent, according to the Lawbook 50.
