Houston Energy M&A Partner Moves from Bracewell to Paul Weiss

June 19, 2026 Elle Grinnell

Austin Lee, an energy M&A partner, has joined Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison in Houston from Bracewell. He will focus his practice on acquisitions and divestitures of oil and gas assets and other transactional and operational matters for energy clients, the firm said in a news release.

Before joining Paul Weiss, Lee spent more than a decade as a partner at Bracewell, advising companies on upstream, midstream and downstream energy transactions. He represents clients in the acquisition and divestiture of oil and gas properties and has experience advising on produced water and saltwater disposal projects, gas storage facilities and other energy infrastructure projects. Earlier in his career, Lee served as in-house upstream legal counsel for Newfield Exploration in The Woodlands, supporting operations and business development activities in South Texas.

“We are excited to have Austin, a talented and versatile energy lawyer, on our growing Houston team,” said Sean T. Wheeler, global co-chair of M&A and head of the firm’s Houston office. “Austin’s extensive knowledge and deal experience, particularly in the upstream space, will enhance our ability to serve our clients, many of whom are focused on investment in energy and infrastructure assets.”

AREAS OF FOCUS
Lee advises public and private companies on mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and other strategic transactions involving oil and gas assets. His practice also includes representing lenders and borrowers in financings involving upstream, midstream and other energy assets, as well as advising clients on project development, operational matters and distressed situations, including restructuring financial arrangements. He has significant experience with upstream oil and gas transactions and broader energy infrastructure projects.
