(April 27) – Wilson Elser recently announced it added Lawrence Waks, an experienced IP and entertainment lawyer, as of counsel to its Dallas office.

Waks, who joins from Jackson Walker, said a big reason for his move was that his practice had become national and international. Wilson Elser has 27 U.S. offices and a London office.

“The firm’s Miami, New York and Los Angeles offices provide an important springboard,” he said. “I wanted to be at a firm where I felt I could make a difference.”

The St. Mary’s University School of Law graduate focuses his practice on IP-related litigation and transactional issues. He says there is an increasing focus on work relating to media and entertainment clients.

Waks, who chairs both the litigation division of the Governing Committee of the American Bar Association Forum on Entertainment and Sports Industries and the Texas State Bar Copyright Section, says he is seeing a growth of trade secret litigation and cross-border transactions. He is also observing a lot of work associated with the digital delivery of content.

This month, Waks participated on a panel of entertainment lawyers at the Dallas International Film Festival. He also currently serves on the board of the Dallas Film Society and the advisory board of the Austin Theater Alliance.
