(Sept. 9) – Holland & Knight announced yesterday the opening of its Houston office, the firm’s third in Texas and 22nd in the U.S.
The Tampa, Florida-based firm is turning to former Greenberg Traurig attorneys L. Bradley Hancock, Christopher Johnsen and Theresa Wanat to spearhead the firm’s efforts in Houston. Hancock will serve as executive partner of the office.
Hancock said he holds a “high opinion” of Holland & Knight from the people he has worked with there and from his experience serving as co-counsel on a couple of cases with the firm.
Hancock’s team has handled four arbitrations and trials this year. He says he is seeing an increased focus from clients on making litigation cost-effective. In response to clients’ requests, Hancock has made alternative fee arrangements a part of his offering.
“Particularly in a down-market, you need to be sensitive to legal spend,” he said. “Our job as lawyers is to help clients look good and achieve their goals.”
The Texas Tech University School of Law graduate says the firm will look for strategic hires to grow the office to better serve the financial services, energy, health care and corporate mergers and acquisitions sectors.
“Houston is a growing legal market and there appears to be no end on the horizon,” he said. “Growing at a smart rate in a smart way with smart people is the key to success.”
