Kesselman, 44, takes over as the chief legal officer at Yum! on Feb. 1, where he will oversee a legal department of about 100 lawyers. Yum! Brands employs more than 500,000 people worldwide, has a market cap of $29 billion and reported revenues last year of $15 billion. Its subsidiaries include KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and Wing Street.

Kesselman joined Dean Foods last January after a six-year stint as the general counsel at Frito Lay and PepsiCo America. From 2006 to 2008, he was the general counsel of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. He was the deputy general counsel of the Office of Management and Budget from 2003 to 2006.

“Marc brings to us a unique combination of expertise in global business, corporate law as well as food and agriculture policy and regulatory affairs,” Yum! Brands CEO Greg Creed said in an internal memo sent to all company employees. “He also brings valuable brand experience from PepsiCo, where he oversaw a wide variety of complex commercial, transactional, litigation, regulatory, and government affairs issues relating to PepsiCo’s food business in North and South America.

“I’m confident Marc’s diverse legal and business background are an ideal strategic and culture fit for Yum! as we intensify our focus on building global iconic brands people trust and champion,” Creed said.

Kesselman is a member of the General Counsel Forum and active in many DFW area organizations and charities.
