(Feb. 1) – Dallas-based intellectual property trial boutique Skiermont Puckett recently announced that it combined with Los Angeles-based commercial litigation boutique Derby Curtis.
The new law firm will be called Skiermont Derby.
Paul Skiermont, who has been friends with Paul Derby since college, said he and Derby have talked about working together for years.
“This move will help us expand our IP experience and brand into California and Los Angeles where there are many important intellectual property cases that result from the thriving local high-tech and creative industries,” Skiermont said in a statement. “This is a natural extension of the important, high-profile work we’re handling in other business sectors.”
Skiermont said the combination is especially timely as his law firm has been preparing to possibly take three contingency cases to trial this year.
He is currently involved in a patent infringement case nearing trial against Apple involving the Siri technology. His clients – Dynamic Advances, LLC and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute – allege that Apple infringed on a patent covering speech recognition technology used to process commands.
