(Oct. 26) – Kirkland & Ellis announced this week that it has lured New York corporate partner Doug Bacon to its Houston office.
A native Texan, Bacon returns home from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. He says he is “thrilled” to continue the growth of Kirkland’s “market-leading” private equity and energy practices.
“The opportunity to return to my hometown to practice with one of the best law firms in the world was too compelling to pass up,” he said.
Bacon’s practice focuses on representing private equity firms, companies and corporations in complex multinational mergers and acquisitions, many of which involve carve-out acquisitions and sales. He has advised Novartis, Honeywell International, The Blackstone Group, KKR and TPG.
“The M&A market broadly remains dynamic as global uncertainties seem to increase daily: political change, fiscal policy, economic headwinds in Europe, Asia and the emerging markets, commodity volatility and increasing regulatory scrutiny, to name just a few,” he said.
“Scale matters in many industries and I think it is safe to assume we will continue to see consolidation.”
Bacon added that he is “very bullish” about investment opportunities in the energy space as restructurings taper in an improving market.
